Bellaire city manager Paul Hofmann will be stepping down from his post on Aug. 2, according to a June 24 blog post by Mayor Andrew Friedberg.

Hofmann is taking a position as Bastrop city manager, after the city specifically sought him out, Friedberg wrote. Bastrop, a city of about 8,700 residents, is located about 30 miles southeast of Austin.

Bellaire City Council will appoint an interim city manager to serve during the transitional period before a permanent hire, Friedberg wrote, likely for the next several months.

“There’s a lot to consider, and it’s not made any easier by the ongoing pandemic,” Friedberg wrote. “Though we’re now in budget season, since it’s the assistant city manager who’s already primarily responsible for shepherding the development of a proposed budget, there shouldn’t be any interruption to that process.”

Hofmann has been city manager of Bellaire since February 2014.
