With all Harris and Fort Bend County results in, candidates Johnny Teague and Tim Stroud will head to a runoff election.

Teague received 9,019 total votes, or 42.69% of the vote, while Stroud garnered 6,225 total votes, or 29.47% of the vote.

Since neither candidate reach more than 50% of the vote in the primary, a runoff election will decide who will be the Republican Party nominee come November.

With 76 of 76 Fort Bend County voting centers, and 206 of 750 Harris County voting centers reporting, Johnny Teague holds the lead on the U.S. House of Representatives District 7 Republican primary.

Teague has 8,430 total votes, or 42.65% of the vote; in second is Tim Stroud with 5,856 total votes, or 29.63% of the votes.

Rudy A. Atencio has received 954 votes, or 4.83% of the votes; Tina Blum Cohen has received 1637 votes, or 8.28% of the votes; Benson Gitau has received 380 votes, or 1.92% of the votes; Laique Rehman has received 908 votes, or 4.59% of the votes; and Lance Stewart has received 1602 votes, or 8.10% of the votes.


If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, a runoff between the top two candidates will be required.

All results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk.

As of 10:40 p.m. little change has occurred in the U.S. House of Representatives District 7 race, though a runoff between the top two vote getters remains in play.


Delays in Harris County have slowed the release of results in this race. Johnny Teague remains the lead candidate with 6,115 total votes, or 44.3% of the vote.

Current runner-up Tim Stroud has received 3,925 total votes, or 28.5% of the votes.

Rudy A. Atencio has received 681 votes, or 4.94% of the votes; Tina Blum Cohen has received 1,058 votes, or 7.67% of the votes; Benson Gitau has received 233 votes, or 1.69% of the votes; Laique Rehman has received 712 votes, or 5.16% of the votes; and Lance Stewart has received 1,069 votes, or 7.75% of the votes.

In the district that traverses both Fort Bend and Harris counties, election day results were limited. Fort Bend County has not updated its vote totals since early day results were released, while Harris County has reported results from two of 375 voting centers.

In the Republican primary election for U.S. House of Representatives District 7, Johnny Teague has the lead with 45.49% of the vote, or 5,373 total votes according to early voting data provided by Harris and Fort Bend counties.

As of 7:45 p.m. Fort Bend and Harris County are reporting early and absentee vote totals.

Candidate Tim Stroud has the second highest total through early voting with 3,389 votes, or 28.63% of the votes.


Rudy A. Atencio has received 501 votes, or 4.23% of the votes; Tina Blum Cohen received 924 votes, or 7.81% of the votes; Benson Gitau received 204 votes, or 1.72% of the votes; Laique Rehman received 269 votes, or 4.96% of the votes; and Lance Stewart received 860 votes, or 7.26% of the votes.

The Democratic primary candidate, Lizzie Fletcher, is running unopposed.

The district includes unincorporated parts of Fort Bend and Harris counties as well as the cities of Bellaire, West University Place and Southside Place and parts of the cities of Houston and Sugar Land.
