Houston ISD has extended school cancelation through Feb. 18 due to icy weather conditions.

“As the freezing conditions continue to impact many families, HISD’s schools and offices will remain [closed] on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18,” the district wrote on its blog Feb. 16. “There will be no virtual or in-person learning. Employees will not report to work unless notified by their supervisor. All athletic events and food distributions for Wednesday and Thursday also are cancelled.”

The extensions come after the district first announced closures on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16, citing the possibility of widespread precipitation and potentially hazardous road conditions.

If conditions permit, all HISD schools and offices will transition to remote operation Feb. 19.
