After nearly two years since Harris County commissioners approved funding for Bayland Park’s master plan tasked with improving facilities, programming and connectivity, Precinct 4 officials will unveil the completed plan at a May 3 event at the Gulfton park.
Harris County commissioners first approved the approximately $465,000 contract with engineering firm Ardurra Group Inc. in July 2023.
The takeaway
Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones and county officials will hold a public event for the community on May 3 from 10 a.m.-noon. Located on Bissonnet Street, county officials were tasked to analyze Bayland Park with input from community members and stakeholders to create a plan that would capture feedback regarding desired programming and outdoor amenities, according to county documents.
After the June 2024 workshop with 40 community participants, county officials found that there was a need for:
- An active park with walking trails, courts and splash pads
- A connected park that prioritized pedestrian safety with shade and safe crossings
- More community center programs and picnics
- A park that incorporated nature including a pollinator garden, urban farm and farmers market
Commissioner Lesley Briones invites you to a community celebration as we unveil the official Master Plan for Bayland Park — a vision that reflects the voices and needs of the Sharpstown community.
