1. Missouri City partners to build new roads in Sienna to improve connectivity
Missouri City council members approved an agreement Sept. 21 with developer Toll-GTIS Property Owner LLC and Sienna Municipal Utility District No. 5 to address traffic circulation in the Sienna area.
Through this partnership, officials seek to obtain a long-term solution to increase connectivity for residents in Sienna as housing development in the area continues, Public Works Director Mustafa Albassam said.
Agenda documents indicate that upcoming project efforts will widen Sienna Parkway and connect additional roads to FM 521.

2. Target opening Texas Heritage Marketplace location in October
National retailer Target is on its way to Texas Heritage Marketplace this October, officials announced in a Sept. 2 news release.
Slated to be the largest food-forward location in the Greater Houston area, the building will encompass 148,000 square feet and create an estimated 200 jobs, per the release.

3. Bellaire Culture and Arts Board unveils two logo design concepts up for resident review
After refining its conceptual design based on initial commentary from residents, the Bellaire Culture and Arts Board has requested a second round of community feedback for the development of Bellaire’s new city logo.
Board members showcased the two newest design concepts Sept. 21 to City Council, which unanimously advanced the designs to a 30-day public comment period.
The goal of the multi-stage municipal logo project is to strengthen the city’s public image and capture its longstanding residential character through a professionally designed logo, per the meeting presentation.

4. United Way of Greater Houston selects new CEO after former president announces retirement
In a Sept. 21 announcement, United Way of Greater Houston officials revealed that CEO Amanda McMillian will retire as president and chief executive officer on May 1, 2027.
Angel Harris, the nonprofit organization’s current vice president and chief advancement officer, will succeed her after being unanimously chosen by the board.
Harris is expected to assume the president and CEO role effective immediately. However, through a 9-month transition, McMillian will remain in her role as she prepares to move on, according to news release details.
McMillian’s journey on United Way of Greater Houston’s executive team began in 2020.

5. League City denies gas station along FM 646, South Egret Bay Boulevard
League City City Council denied a special use permit for a gas station to be placed at the intersection of FM 646 and South Egret Bay Boulevard at a Sept. 22 meeting.
The motion to approve the first reading failed in a 2-5 vote, with council members Tom Crews and Andy Mann being the only ones to vote in favor of the development.
Council members and city staff discussed at length possible alternatives for the proposed tract, noting that the applicant could move it to a different corner of the intersection to mitigate issues with neighboring residential areas.

6. New grocery, meat market coming soon to Pearland area
Texas-based La Michoacana Meat Market will be opening its doors in Pearland, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
With construction slated to begin in October, the target completion date for development is early 2027, filing details indicate.
The Pearland location will join over 140 La Michoacana markets currently in operation, most of them within the state of Texas in cities such as Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.
