The Houston area welcomed a record 54 million visitors in 2024 which led to a 15% rise in hotel revenue, according to Downtown Houston’s 2024 Year End Market Report. Downtown Houston saw 37.4 million visits in 2024.

The 2024 Year End Market Report features data and trends across the Houston metro, according to Downtown Houston’s website.

The report also found overall office vacancies in Downtown Houston increased 0.9% to 25.3%, and the total square footage leased decreased by 30.2%.

Many companies have renewed pre-pandemic leases, according to the report, and the trend of increasing office vacancies is expected to slow in 2025.

The Houston Astros, Rockets, Dynamo and Dash combined for 3.9 million in total attendance in 2024, according to the report. The Astros led Houston’s pro sports teams in attendance with roughly 2.8 million people attending over 81 games.

One last thing

Nearly 500 new hotel rooms are expected to come to Downtown Houston in 2025, including a Holiday Inn Express, Home2Suites and Tru. Downtown Houston is home to 8,723 of the 19,661 hotel rooms within the 610 Loop, according to the report.
