Austin-based Crux Climbing Center is expanding to Houston in October, according to a Crux spokesperson.

The gist

Started in 2016, Crux currently has three locations in Austin, with the Houston center on Canal Street being its fourth in the state.

“We’ve built and grown such an awesome community in Austin and can’t wait to extend our Crux family to include Houston,” Crux founder and CEO Kevin Goradia said in a Dec. 11 news release. “As someone who was raised in Houston, I’m excited to bring Crux back to my hometown.”

Crux is an indoor climbing gym featuring bouldering, a strength training gym, fitness and yoga classes, community events and kids' climbing courses.

The Houston location will be in The Plant in Second Ward, right off the METRORail Green Line. According to the news release, opening the climbing center at The Plant was inspired by Concept Neighborhood's plan to create a walkable neighborhood that integrates the local community.
