Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams: The fourth Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams location is coming to Rice Village. Flavors include burnt orange dreamsicle, double dough chocolate chip cookie dough, green mint peppermint cream, Boston cream pie, and frose sorbet, which is a sangria-style frozen rose flavor. Jeni's also serves seasonal flavors and special collection pints.Hudson House: Dallas-based Vanderlay Hospitality Group opened its first Houston location in River Oaks last fall at 1966 W. Gray St., Houston. While the opening date has not been disclosed for the Rice Village location, General Manager Aj Jennings confirmed in an email that the new restaurant is currently under construction at the former Victoria's Secret location on University Boulevard. Lunch, dinner and weekend brunch will be offered, according to the restaurant's website.Now Open

Paper Source: A new Paper Source location is now open in Rice Village that offers sustainable, artisanal paper products. The Kelvin Street store opened in June, Jennings said in an email. Products include calendars, journals, pens, notepads, planners, candles, home decor and personalized gifts. Paper Source retail specialists also work on creating paper products for special events, including wedding invitations.Closed

Allbirds: Nearly two years after opening a Rice Village location in the summer of 2022, the international footwear and apparel brand Allbirds has closed shop at 2503 Amherst St., Houston.


In a March news release from Allbirds, officials said that they were going to reignite growth and improve capital efficiency in order to drive improved profitability. The company appointed a new CEO in 2023, who was tasked with working in key transformation plan areas, including retail store profitability.PNC Bank: The Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank no longer operates at its Rice Village branch located at 2401 University Blvd., Houston. Another PNC branch located nearby can be found at 4555 Bissonnet St., Houston.
