The El Dorado Boulevard widening project has nearly finished construction, according to the office of Commissioner Adrian Garcia.

The project set out to widen El Dorado from a two-lane to a four-lane road between Clear Lake City Boulevard and Horsepen Bayou; however, citizens from a local neighborhood have noted the trees removed from the sides of the road have not yet been replaced.

"With the exception of the trees, the project is substantially complete now," Special Projects Coordinator Janeth Martinez said.

Construction on the two-phase project first began on May 27, 2020, and has cost a total of about $7 million dollars so far funded equally by Harris County and the city of Houston, according to Martinez.

The office of Garcia initially planned to hold a ribbon-cutting in coordination with the city of Houston to celebrate the completion of the El Dorado Boulevard widening project Dec. 12; however, the event has been postponed, and a new date has not been set yet.

The city of Houston did not immediately return requests for comment regarding the status of the project.
