The Space Center Rotary Club is hosting its annual LEAP for Mankind Awards Gala in February, which will honor “exceptional individuals and businesses in the Bay Area,” according to a Jan. 30 news release from the club.

The LEAP awards, which highlight leadership, excellence, achievement and philanthropy, will highlight those who “demonstrated a profound impact on the lives of the Bay Area families,” according to the release.

Those recognized will receive an award, public recognition during the event and a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice, according to the release.

The specifics


Those being highlighted will include Jill Reason, the executive director of the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre, according to the release. Reason, who was chosen for this year’s Individual Award, is an “esteemed educator, community leader and arts advocate.”

Barrios Technology, a woman-owned and operated small aerospace business, was chosen for this year’s Business Award, according to the release. The company has provided technology, software and engineering to both government and commercial space flight programs worldwide. They also are involved in local boards and philanthropy.

Gleen Freedman will be honored with the LEAP Legacy Award, according to the release. Freedman has served several different sectors in the area, including aerospace, nonprofit, for-profit and education.

Tickets for the event are priced at $150 and can be found through a registration link for the event, according to the release.

The event will be held at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 24 at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center, 2500 South Shore Blvd., League City.
