MD Anderson Cancer Center is developing a $239.2 million preclinical research facility near the Texas Medical Center, MD Anderson officials confirmed in an Oct. 24 email.

The facility is expected to be completed in 2028, according to the email.

The details

The 281,254-square-foot project is part of the MD Anderson capital improvement project approved by the University of Texas System Board of Regents in May 2024, according to the email.

The project will demolish a current facility in order to build the new project, according to the email. The architect for the project is Houston-based firm Perkins and Will.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. It has several other locations in the Greater Houston area, according to its website.

MD Anderson Cancer Center has announced other expansions and renovations in the Houston area this year, including a new facility coming to Missouri City in spring 2026 and a new diagnostic imaging clinic to the northwest Houston area in early 2026, Community Impact previously reported.
