Following canceled blood drives and power outages due to Hurricane Beryl, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is calling upon Greater Houston residents to donate blood.

The big picture

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is seeking all blood types to replenish blood supply for Houston-area hospitals and health care facilities, according to a July 12 news release.

The center is also looking for locations to host blood drives, such as businesses, community groups and churches.

According to its website, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center requires hosts to provide:
  • A suitable indoor space or outdoor area for the donor bus
  • A chairperson and volunteers to manage the drive
  • At least 30 donors prescheduled to donate

Another note

After being closed July 8, the MD Anderson Blood Bank reopened July 9 after regaining power. Center staff are asking residents to donate blood to help cancer patients at Holly Hall Blood Donor Center at 2555 Holly Hall St., Houston, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., according to an MD Anderson news release.
