League City officials will consider applying for several grants at its Jan. 27 meeting, which, if awarded the maximum amounts, would total nearly $4 million to fund League City Police Department operations.
Sorting out the details
The grants are offered through the state and can be used to fund the following operations up to the amount requested:
- $500,000 for gym equipment to support officer mental health
- $1 million to support the department’s ability to work with other agencies on border security
- $2 million to deploy vehicles as barricades in during public events or emergency situations
- $147,000 to increase the department’s digital forensics capabilities
- $58,000 to fund the department’s body-worn camera program
- $252,000 to fund the department’s crime victims assistance program
The $1 million border security grant funds may be used to provide personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, travel and training in support of Operation Lone Star activities, according to city documents.
