League City City Council approved $2.3 million in funding for food supply services at The Ballpark in League City at its June 24 meeting.

Council also approved a few other items, including a new speed limit along a portion of Hobbs Road.

The overview

The funding will support future contracts to provide food services for the city-operated facility, which host events and recreational activities throughout the year. Vendors under consideration include Sysco, Gordon Food Service and Ben. E. Keith, according to city documents.

Also on the agenda

Council also approved a 35 mph speed limit along Hobbs Road between Ervin Street and Patagonia Street, a stretch approximately 1.78 miles long.

Previously, the speed limit posted was 30 mph, documents show. The daily traffic volume for the road is around 4,700 vehicles.

What else?

Meanwhile, a proposed resolution to launch a city-run after-school program, which was originally included in the consent agenda, was pulled prior to voting.

Sarah Osborne, director of communications and community engagement for the city, said in a June 25 email that staff wanted to look more into the cost before presenting it to Council. She said at this point it's unknown when it could go back on the agenda for a vote.
