Harris County commissioners have more than 370 agenda items for the June 12 meeting, which include discussing negotiations on law enforcement pay and amendments to the Harris County employee minimum wage policy.

The background

Commissioners approved the county’s law enforcement pay parity for fiscal year 2025-26 at a May 22 court meeting. The approval will require county officials to identify $140 million in savings to provide for the raises. Meanwhile, the county’s employee minimum wage policy of at least $20 per hour was passed March 27 and the increase is expected to take effect by the summer, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Digging deeper

Commissioners will be requesting approval for various development projects in their respective precincts, according to the June 12 agenda packet. Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey will seek approval to accept a donation of up to 2,000 trees from nonprofit Trees for Houston. If approved, they will be planted throughout Precinct 3 parks and esplanades.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones looks to get approval for the “All in 4 Katy East” community plan prepared by Halff Associates, Inc., which is an ongoing strategic framework plan for infrastructure and economic investment to improve housing, health and safety through 45 projects. It also covers unincorporated areas east of Katy from Katy Hockley Road to Highway 6 and the Harris County line.

Also on the agenda

Ramsey will also honor the Klein Cain High School’s soccer team for winning the 2025 UIL 6A championship. Meanwhile, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will request to approve resolutions that designate June in Harris County as National Immigrant Heritage Month and National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

A resolution to celebrate Pride Month in June will be requested by Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia and Briones, while Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Briones will commemorate June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day in Harris County.
