What happened
City Council voted unanimously at its May 27 meeting to postpone voting on awarding a $1 million contract to Stafford-based contractor Jerdon Enterprise to build two kayak launches at Kansas Avenue and Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center, according to agenda documents.
Community Impact previously reported that City Council voted to postpone awarding the contracts at its April 8 meeting to allow the contractor to provide a more detailed breakdown of the costs.
Council member Sean Saunders requested a postponement of the vote so that the contractor could provide building plans with a floating dock instead of a fixed dock.
Saunders also asked city staff to consider phased development for the parking lot and initially use street parking “until we know this is going to be actually used,” he said.
The project includes ADA-compliant access, shoreline restoration, wayfinding signage, elevated boardwalks and potentially picnic amenities, according to agenda documents.
Looking ahead
The meeting date for when City Council will vote to award the contract has not yet been selected.
If approved, the project will be completed within 180 days of City Council’s vote and subsequent notice to proceed to Jerdon Enterprise.
