Nearly 40% of League City is undeveloped—the bulk of which sits on the city's west side—and the plan will act as a guide to help develop it in the coming years.
What happened
League City City Council gave unanimous approval on the first of two votes needed for the plan, which lays out plans for flooding and drainage, commercial development and parkland.
The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended City Council adopt the plan on April 21, according to agenda documents.
Key goals of the plan include:
- Balancing the residential-commercial tax ratio to a more sustainable 60/40 split
- Enhancing infrastructure, mobility and stormwater management with a hybrid regional detention system
- Promoting walkable mixed-use development along the future Grand Parkway corridor
- Aligning with the 2035 Comprehensive Plan to support sustainable, high-quality growth
Community Impact previously reported that city documents show the west side of town could have more than 16,000 residents by 2030.
The plan dates back to 2024 and was first presented at a workshop in April, Community Impact previously reported.
Results from a previous survey carried out showed residents overwhelmingly wanted more active and developed parks, according to city documents.
