The overview
The Music Friendly Texas program was introduced by TMO in 2016, and “seeks to foster music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities,” the press release notes.
League City is the 80th Music Friendly Texas certified community, and the ninth in the Greater Houston and Galveston area, according to the program’s website.
The city sought to become a certified community in May 2024, Community Impact previously reported.
Other nearby certified communities include Alvin, Clear Lake Shores, Conroe and Sugar Land, among other cities, according to the program’s website.
What they’re saying
“Congratulations to League City on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” Abbott said in the news release. “With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide.”
“League City’s Public Art Initiative not only supports local visual artists in our community but performing artists as well,” Mayor Nick Long said in the news release. “This Music Friendly Texas Community designation demonstrates the city’s commitment to supporting all types of arts, including our local musicians.”
