League City City Council voted April 8 to postpone voting on awarding a bid to build a kayak launch on Kansas Avenue that accesses Clear Creek.

As part of the postponement, officials asked the contractor to provide a more detailed breakdown of the costs.

What happened

City Council voted unanimously to postpone a vote for the $1.5 million contract to Stafford-based Jerdon Enterprise, which would have included building a kayak launch on North Kansas Avenue.

The project is part of the broader Clear Creek Connections Paddle Trail expansion, which aims to extend the trail by adding two kayak launches that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, documents show.

The kayak launches include:
  • One at the terminus of North Kansas Avenue
  • One within the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center
The launch will include a concrete parking lot with a cul-de-sac, sidewalks and an elevated boardwalk, according to the city’s website.

What they’re saying

Council member Chad Tressler asked City Council to postpone the vote until the May 27 meeting and asked Jerdon Enterprise to present a detailed breakdown of what the construction costs entail.

“In general, we’d like to see the cost kind of broken out by different elements of the project and maybe some lower cost options provided for each of those elements,” Tressler said.
