As the holidays come to an end, there are several entities hosting Christmas tree recycling and disposal around the Greater Houston area. Check them out below. This list is not comprehensive.

City of Bellaire

The city of Bellaire will accept Christmas tree drop-offs from Dec. 26-Jan. 10 at 4401 Edith St., Houston. Flocked trees will not be accepted, and all lights, ornaments and tinsel must be removed from the trees. Trees can be placed near the recycling sign.

Harris County Precinct 3

Harris County Precinct 3 will collect trees from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. between Dec. 26-Jan. 7. All lights and ornaments must be removed, and only two trees per vehicle will be accepted.


City of Houston

The city of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department will conduct its Christmas tree recycling program from Dec. 26-Jan. 24. There will be 22 drop-off sites throughout Houston. Trees cannot be flocked, painted or artificial, and all lights, ornaments, tinsel, wire, nails and stands must be removed.

City of Katy

In the city of Katy, Dec. 30 and Jan. 7 will be pick-up days for Christmas tree recycling. Flocked and artificial trees cannot be recycled, and trees must be placed on the curb by 8 a.m. on the designated pick-up days. All decorations, ornaments, lights and tinsel must be removed before recycling. There will also be three recycling locations if residents are unable to recycle their trees during the designated pick-up days.


City of Pearland

Residents in the city of Pearland can drop their live Christmas trees off between Dec. 28-Jan. 21 in the trailer at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center, 5800 Magnolia Parkway, Pearland. Trees cannot have any flocking, glitter, artificial snow or lights.

San Jacinto River Authority

In partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, the San Jacinto River Authority will collect live Christmas trees through Jan. 31. The trees will be used to create artificial habitats for fish in Lake Conroe.


The Woodlands Township

Unflocked, green Christmas trees free of decorations, lights and bases can be placed curbside for regular collection by the yard trimmings truck. Trees must be cut down to 6 feet tall or less. Green trees can also be brought to the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, 6464 Creekside Forest Drive, from Dec. 26-Jan. 12. Real trees covered in fake snow, or flocking, must be placed in a landfill, and Waste Management can be contacted at wm.com or 800-800-5804 two business days before the regular service day to schedule bulk pickup.
