State Rep. Dennis Paul, R-Clear Lake, announced his bid for the Texas Senate on May 8.

Long story short

Paul, who currently serves as the representative for District 129, announced his intention to run for Senate District 11, which is currently occupied by Mayes Middleton, R-Galveston.

However, the seat is expected to be open as Middleton announced in April plans to run for the Texas Attorney General, which is itself open because current Attorney General Ken Paxton is planning a run for U.S. Senate, according to news releases from each official.

The seat for District 11 is up for re-election in 2026. Whoever wins will serve in the seat for a four-year term, according to the state senate’s website.

District 129 covers much of the northern part of the Bay Area in Harris County. That area includes much of Seabrook and Webster, as well as parts of Friendswood, Houston and League City, according to maps from the district.

District 11 sprawls into parts of Brazoria, Galveston and Harris counties, according to the district’s map. That area includes Manvel, Pearland, Friendswood, League City, Galveston, Texas City, Dickinson, parts of Pasadena and territory stretching into Baytown.

About the candidate

Paul was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2015. Most recently, he won re-election in November, Community Impact previously reported.

Paul in the news release called service District 129 “my great honor.”

“I will faithfully represent those values which make Texas the greatest state to live, work and raise a family: faith in God; love for family and liberty,” Paul said in the release.

What else?

Shortly after his announcement, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick endorsed Paul for the position, according to a news release from Patrick’s office.
