The early voting period ahead of the Nov. 5 general election wrapped up Nov. 1 with 1.23 million total ballots cast over 12 days.

About 95% of those ballots were cast in person across 88 early voting centers, and more than 57,000 mail ballots were received during the early voting period.

Community Impact previously reported county officials were estimating 70% of ballots for this election would be cast during the early voting period.
Taking a step back

Harris County saw more ballots cast early in the 2020 general election during an extended 18-day early voting period. During this election, 88% of early votes were cast in person, with more citizens taking advantage of voting by mail.
However, when comparing the first 12 days of early voting in 2020 to the full 12-day early voting period this year, turnout was up by about 16% for the 2024 general election.

Another 221,500 votes were cast on Election Day in 2020. At the time, that amounted to 69.14% voter turnout in Harris County.


The November 2016 election saw about 977,000 votes cast early in Harris County followed by another 360,000 votes cast on Election Day for about 61.33% turnout countywide.
