The campaign, which focuses on the district’s open enrollment program, was presented to the board of trustees at its Oct. 13 workshop.
The overview
With the open enrollment program in full fledge, the district will launch a campaign named Discover CCISD.
CCISD’s open enrollment program allows out-of-district families to apply to enroll within the district under the superintendent's authority, according to district documents.
The Discover CCISD campaign will follow the following three phases:
- Oct. 20-30: World-class webinar series to focus on different programs CCISD offers from elementary through high school
- Nov. 3-14: elementary campus tours
- Dec. 1-Jan. 23: application window for families interested in the open enrollment program
The background
The board expanded the program in February, Community Impact previously reported.
Prior to its expansion, the district’s limited open enrollment program allowed students who reside outside of the district’s attendance boundaries to attend CCISD schools if they met a certain criterion, according to district documents.
If a student’s previous academic history, attendance and discipline criteria was met, a student would qualify if their parent or guardian met one of the following requirements:
- Nonresident peace officers who live within 10 miles of the district
- Nonresident military service members who live within 10 miles of the district
- Nonresident federal employees who live within 10 miles of the district
- Nonresident grandchildren of grandparents who live within CCISD’s attendance boundaries
- Students of nonresident CCISD employees
The expansion was approved with hopes of increasing student enrollment. Since the 2019-20 school year, CCISD’s student enrollment has declined by over 6%, according to data from the Texas Education Agency. While district officials did not disclose how many students enrolled in the district based on the open enrollment program, nearly 300 interest forms were filled after the program's expansion with many coming from private and charter schools, CCISD’s Chief Communications Officer Elaina Polsen said.
