Clear Creek ISD’s board of trustees approved at its July 14 workshop a three-year contract with Galveston County to receive 47 school resource officers, or SROs, from July 2025 through July 2028.

The gist

SROs are fully licensed law enforcement officers assigned to campuses for safety and to handle emergencies, according to district documents.

The agreement comes as the current three-year contract, which started in 2021 and was extended to July of this year, nears its end, according to district agenda documents.

The new agreement will begin July 29 and last through July 28, 2028, according to district documents.

Trustees also approved a separate item to include a three-year contract for an administrative assistant for the SRO program, district documents note.

The cost

The estimated annual costs for three years total up to over $14 million. The annual cost per year is estimated at the following:
  • 2025-26: $4.55 million
  • 2026-27: $4.7 million
  • 2027-28: $4.83 million
For the administrative assistant, the total estimated cost for all three years is over $82,000, according to district documents.

In total, the board approved about $14.1 million for the SRO program, along with the administrative assistant. The cost will be paid through the district’s general fund, according to district documents.
