The School Health Advisory Council, or SHAC, was approved at Clear Creek ISD’s board of trustees’ Oct. 14 meeting.

The overview

SHAC is a group of district and community members tasked “to ensure that CCISD's school health programs reflect local community values,” according to district agenda documents.

Those values tie into the council’s role in considering physical activity and fitness programming, and developing mental health services, among other tasks, according to district documents.

The Texas Education Code requires parents of students in the district who are not employed to make up a majority of the members in the council. The board of trustees approved 15 parents who were recommended to be a part of the council.

A request for parent interest was sent out on Sept. 11, and over 390 parents responded with interest, district documents show.

The determination for the 15 parents was made through a random drawing, according to district documents.

Other members appointed to the council are three students, who will be recommended by high school principals, seven staff members and three health professionals within the community, selected by the superintendent or their designee, according to the district’s website.

The identities of the members will remain private due to district preferences, district officials said.
