The overview
The property, which is owned by Amirco Properties, could house a national brand in the coming months, owner and developer Amir Zakhireh said. At the moment, there are a handful of businesses looking at the building.
While he said he would prefer a grocery store to take over the spot, which he said would fill a need and "make everyone happy," he is also considering bringing in soft goods, which would sell items such as clothing and other similar goods.
However, to open a soft goods store, the site would have to be revamped in some ways, he said.
The background
Zakhireh said Kroger left the spot after parties could not come to terms on a future lease agreement for the site. The national grocery chain had occupied the spot for more than four decades.
Looking ahead
Zakhireh did not give an exact timeline on when a lease could be signed and a business opened. However, he said he is looking to get the lease squared away within the next six to 10 months. If a grocery store is ultimately what takes up the space, he said it would be a quick turnaround—between two to four months after the lease is signed—to get them opened.
