Oil and gas company Chevron is moving its headquarters from San Ramon, California, to Houston, according to an Aug. 2 news release.

The details

The company’s senior leadership will relocate to Houston by the end of 2024, with all corporate operations expected to be in Houston over the next five years, according to the release. Positions in support of Chevron’s California operations will remain in San Ramon.

There are 5,000 Houston-based Chevron employees and approximately 2,000 employees in San Ramon, according to the release.

Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the news in a post on the social platform X, formerly Twitter.

At a press conference Aug. 2, Houston Mayor John Whitmire also celebrated the news.

“It’s an exciting day to be a Houstonian,” Whitmire said.

Last September, Chevron bought 77 acres of land in Bridgeland Central, a 925-acre mixed-use project near the Grand Parkway in Cypress, Community Impact previously reported. The plans for the land include a research and development campus.
