Three Carroll ISD trustee positions will be up for election on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The filing period to secure a place on the November ballot starts July 18 and runs until Aug. 17, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
The overview
Voters within CISD’s boundaries will cast ballots for three positions on the district’s board of trustees: Place 1, Place 2 and Place 3. CISD trustees serve a three-year term.
Place 1 is currently held by Christy Stacy, who serves as the board’s secretary. Stacy was originally elected in May 2023.
Eric Lannen serves as the Place 2 trustee and is seeking a third term after initially winning his position in May 2020. The Place 3 trustee is Mandy Reece, who is serving the remainder of a vacated term after winning a November 2025.
Some context
Past school board elections had been held in May. However, last December, trustees voted to move CISD’s school board elections to November.
The change is allowed under state law with the passage of House Bill 3546, which allows school districts to hold their regular elections on the November uniform election date.
Additionally, trustees also updated their vote threshold from a plurality vote to a majority vote, meaning that any candidate must get more than 50% of votes to win a seat. If no candidate reaches that threshold, the top two vote-getters would head to a runoff election.
