Carroll ISD students and staff can now see what the 2019-20 school calendar holds. On Jan. 14, the CISD board of trustees decided to adopt one of the two calendars presented for the board to consider.
In December, the Southlake community provided feedback to help the board decide on a new 2019-20 school calendar. The district posted the two calendars on its website and let community members submit feedback on draft one or draft two of the calendar. On Jan. 14, the board approved draft 2 of the calendar for the upcoming school year.
Acting Superintendent Janet McDade said the district received 610 responses from the community regarding the two calendar options, with the majority in favor of the second calendar option.
This calendar differs from the other in its fall exam schedule and the spring break professional day dates. The adopted calendar has the fall exam schedule for all grades Dec. 16-17 and exam days for grades 5-12 on Dec. 18-19. Dec. 20 would be a school holiday for students, making it one less instructional day than draft one of the calendar.
This calendar also includes a professional development day March 16.
A CISD news release stated because CISD is a district of innovation, it can be flexible with its school calendar and create a calendar that best meets the needs of the students.
Highlights of the calendar include:
- The first day of school will be held Monday, Aug. 19.
- Students will have a weeklong break from Nov. 25-29 for Thanksgiving.
- Winter break will run Dec. 23-Dec. 27.
- Students and staff will be off March 9-13 for spring break.
- The last day of school will be held Thursday, May 28.
