According to early voting results from Williamson County, the majority of Georgetown residents who voted early support the reauthorization to use a portion of sales tax revenue to fund street maintenance throughout the city.
The results
A total of 26,939 Georgetown early voters cast their ballots in favor of the street maintenance sales tax, or 75.37% of voters.
What it means
The city has used a portion of sales tax to fund street maintenance since voters initially approved the measure in 2002. State law requires the street maintenance sales tax be reauthorized every four years, and the November ballot proposition does not increase the sales tax rate.
Anyone who shops in Georgetown contributes to the tax, not just homeowners, according to a city news release. The quarter-cent sales tax is the main source of funding for street maintenance in Georgetown, according to city documents.
