Vision to enhance University, Austin avenues' downtown corridors underway

With the completion of the bypass, heavy commercial traffic could be required to use Inner Loop/Southwest Bypass and not University Avenue. This change will have a major impact on east-west traffic flow through downtown.

The University Avenue Corridor Project will focus on University Avenue from Southwestern Boulevard to Scenic Drive.

Austin Avenue corridor

Currently, Austin Avenue effectively splits downtown Georgetown in half, Mitchell said in the release.

With the increased civic, commercial and residential development on the west side of Austin Avenue, there is a growing need to better unify the growing west side of town and the established east side of town, with the Williamson County Courthouse, retail and restaurants, along with a vibrant Old Town residential community.

The Austin Avenue Corridor Project will focus on Austin Avenue from Second Street to West 18th Street.

GNA has reached out to selected community leaders to build the GNA Project Team. The project will consist of three phases.

• Phase 2: community survey
• Phase 3: corridor design
