The city of Georgetown received a petition July 11 addressing inconsistencies in alcohol sales within the city of Georgetown.
Georgetown residents and H-E-B representatives first launched the petition June 7, which intends to apply a 2010 voter decision that allows the sale of alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages, within city limits, to the new development.
Since Wolf Lakes Village was not annexed into the city limits until 2017, state law requires an election to be held in the current boundaries of the city.
The petition needed approximately 10,400 signatures of Georgetown residents for City Council to call an election by the Aug. 10 meeting.
The petition acquired over 11,000 signatures, according to city staff. City staff will validate the petition by verifying each signature.
