Frisco will hold a recount for the Jan. 31 special election for Frisco City Council Place 1.
The city secretary’s office officially accepted candidate Mark Piland’s petition for the recount on Feb. 16, according to a Feb. 17 news release.

The city has seven days to complete the recount, which will be done in conjunction with the Collin County Elections Administration and the Denton County Elections Administration. Official recount results will be posted by 5 p.m. on Feb. 23.
Piland ran against Ann Anderson in the Jan. 31 election. Anderson won with 4,063 votes and Mark trailed with 3,953 votes, according to results canvassed by the city Feb. 10.
The special election was called after seat holder John Keating announced he was running for mayor in May.
Looking ahead
As a result of the recount, the candidate swear-in for Place 1 is now expected to happen at the March 3 council meeting, according to the news release.
