Bonnie Ruth’s Owner Liz Brown plans to add a private dining room to the restaurant next year.[/caption]

Guests can experience a slice of Paris when dining at Bonnie Ruth’s in Frisco.

The restaurant opened in 2006. At the time, owner Liz Brown was in charge of the bakery. In 2007, Brown became the owner of the restaurant, which she said was a huge learning curve.

“It was hard because I didn’t really know what I was doing,” Brown said. “I’m a recruit [human resources] manager by trade, so I had a lot to learn. Just by being diligent, observing and making mistakes, I learned.”

Brown said she has been blessed with help to make Bonnie Ruth’s a success.

“I feel like I have an angel that sits on my shoulder,” Brown said. “The reason being whenever I needed an employee, somebody always comes knocking on my door or somebody was always there to lend a helping hand.”

Brown said the bistro’s menu is based on family recipes and French inspiration. Some of the customer favorites include chicken paillard ($20), calamari ($10) and mussels ($10). From the bakery, chocolate praline cake, red velvet cake and carrot cake ($45-$48 for a 10-inch cake) are also favorites, she said.

Brown also said each dish uses whole ingredients, such as whole butter, whole cream and whole milk.

“It really does make a difference,” Brown said. “If these are the ingredients I use in my house, then we should be using them here as well.”

Next year, Brown will have owned Bonnie Ruth’s for 10 years and plans to bring changes to the bistro.

The restaurant will expand its patio and bakery, and a private room will be added for the restaurant to host private parties. Brown plans to expand Bonnie Ruth’s catering business as well, and the restaurant will host monthly wine dinners beginning in January.

“It’s so weird that after 10 years and we’ve been through all kinds of economic downturns, and yet my wonderful guests seem to keep coming back,” she said. “I hope as Frisco continues to grow, we grow as well.”
