The candidate filing for the city of Denton and Denton ISD is open until Feb. 13 for the upcoming May election.
The details
Five Denton City Council positions are up for grabs, including:
- Denton mayor
- Denton City Council, District 1
- Denton City Council, District 2
- Place 5 at-large seat
- Place 6 at-large seat
Denton Mayor Gerard Hudspeth has served his final term allowed by city regulations and is seeking the office for County Commissioner for Precinct 4.
Council members Brian Beck and Vicki Byrd are also seeking other offices. Beck is running for Mayor of Denton and Byrd is running for Denton ISD board of trustees Place 6.
Denton ISD has two open trustee positions:
- Denton ISD board, Place 6
- Denton ISD board, Place 7
Place 6 trustee Lori Hays resigned from her seat in mid-January due to health concerns. District documents state DISD trustees can serve three-year terms and run for reelection on a staggered basis of two or three at a time. The last Place 6 election was in 2023.
Looking ahead
The last day to register to vote in Denton County is April 2. The election is scheduled for May 2.
