On Thursday, November 12, NorthGate Constructors will open ramps connecting southbound William D. Tate Avenue to southbound SH 121 and southbound SH 360 in Grapevine. Construction on the $17 million project began in February 2015. Fewer than 10 months later, the new ramps will open more than one year ahead of schedule, as they were set to be complete in January 2017.
Reconstruction of the SH 121/SH 360 interchange was included in the ultimate scope of the DFW Connector project, but initially only $1 billion in funds were available. For this reason, certain elements of the project, including construction at the south end of the DFW Connector, were removed from the contract. In 2014, funds became available for construction of two new ramps in this area.
These new ramps will provide better access to SH 121/ SH 360 and allow drivers to bypass the Stone Myers Parkway intersection. Residents in Grapevine will also experience reduced congestion and improved safety in this area.
“We are excited the connection between northwest Grapevine and south Grapevine will soon be easier for residents and visitors," said Grapevine City Manager Bruno Rumbelow. "This critical piece of infrastructure will enhance the quality of life of all of our residents by reducing congestion on the 121 service road as well."
