The Texas Department of Transportation’s Dallas District is urging drivers to avoid US 75 near Royal Lane between Sept. 9-10 as progress continues on the Northaven Trail Bridge project.

What’s happening

Various lanes will be closed on north and southbound US 75 this weekend, according to a TxDOT Traffic Advisory notice. All lanes between Royal Lane and Forrest Lane will be detoured to frontage roads at times between 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and 3 p.m. Sept. 10.

There will also be various ramp closures at the US 75 and Royal Lane junction, according to the advisory.

Drivers are strongly urged to avoid the area during the listed times as significant delays can be expected on the highway and adjacent streets, TxDOT Public Information Officer Kenna Mitchell said in an email.

How we got here

During the lane closures, construction crews will continue work on the Northaven Trail Bridge project, Mitchell said.

The project’s signature piece, a 201-foot-long arched bridge, was assembled last spring behind the Conn’s HomePlus store at the northeast corner of US 75 and Royal Lane.

“The goal is to get it in place this weekend, then other work will continue on the connections and bridge over the coming weeks,” she said.

The $9.3 million project aims to bridge the gap between existing bicycle and pedestrian trails across US 75, according to TxDOT’s website. TxDOT awarded the project to Ragle Construction Inc., and construction began in 2021.

The project is slated for completion in late September.
