Richardson residents can expect to see an improved play structure, new shade canopies and other renovations to the Heights Family Aquatic Center next summer.

Richardson City Council approved an $868,452 construction contract for renovations to the Heights Family Aquatic Center at an Oct. 13 meeting. The center is the city’s most used pool for recreational swimming, according to city documents.

The renovation plans are part of the city’s Aquatics Master Plan, which was passed earlier this year in an effort to modernize the city’s aquatic facilities and programming.

The details

According to city documents, the renovation will address the general wear and tear that has affected the facility since its opening in 2013, as well as strong public interest in adding more shading options.

Some of these changes will include upgrading the main play structure at the leisure pool, replacing the shade structure over the tot pool and other existing canopies, and installing a new covered area.

In addition, there are plans to upgrade all of the pools’ pumps, motors, valves and piping.

The project is scheduled to begin in October 2025 and wrap up in May 2026.
