A Garland Walmart, located at 5302 N. Garland Ave., is operating delivery within a radius up to 6 miles away, which may include some Richardson residents, according to a city news release.

Drone delivery is being offered in partnership with Wing, a spokesperson for the drone company said.

What you need to know

Drones typically deliver the packages flying at around 65 miles per hour 200 feet above the ground, per the news release. Through the partnership with Wing, about 1,000 items are eligible for delivery, with the drones delivering packages weighing less than 2.6 pounds.

A Wing spokesperson said that drone deliveries can be made within 30 minutes, every day of the week. Based on company data, the average customer orders drone delivery twice a week, the spokesperson added.

The context

Richardson was one of the first Texas cities to receive drone deliveries from Walmart in 2022, according to the news release, which was offered through the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Buckingham Road.

Per a company blog post in early October, the company partners with 11 different Walmart stores and serves 26 cities within its first year of scaled-up operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The company plans to continue its growth in 2025, according to the post.
