An approved rezoning request that will allow the redevelopment of an existing medical office building into apartments is now reflected in Richardson’s zoning map.

Richardson City Council approved the ordinance to make changes to the city’s Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance and zoning map during the Jan. 22 meeting. The changes pertain to a previously approved five-story apartment building that will be built at 2520 N. Central Expressway.

The overview

A planned development district was approved for the location that was formerly used as a one-story Baylor Scott & White Health medical office, according to city documents. Now vacant, Dallas-based JLB Partners is seeking to develop a five-story apartment building with 390 units on the site.

Based on plans submitted to the city, the developer also wants to create a pedestrian connection to the city’s Central Trail.

What’s next?

Per city documents, the apartment complex is expected to be complete in 2027.
