Brown is a Texas-native who produces work under the name The Freckled Army, inspired by her grandmother’s experiences with bullying.
“I create my pieces with all their 'flaws' and ‘freckles’ as a defense mechanism for her younger self and as a reminder to seek out beauty in our imperfections,” Brown said in a news release issued by the city.
The overview
Brown started in photography before moving into illustration where she uses layered textures, woodcut elements and set-design influences to create immersive pieces, per the release.
Merchandise with Brown’s artwork will be available for purchase both at the festival and online and will include a poster, T-shirts, hats, stickers and more.
“My work strives to bring the same comfort and cozy familiarity to its collectors that Cottonwood has brought to me all these years,” Brown said in the release.
In addition, the festival will feature live music, a craft beer garden, food trucks, kids' art activities and booths from over 200 artists.
