A new comfort food restaurant, Dream Cafe, plans to open later this year in Richardson’s Core District, according to a city news release.

The cafe’s menu includes biscuits and gravy, omelets, sandwiches, and more, according to its website. Dream Cafe’s menu also includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Dream Cafe will initially open in the space formerly occupied by Greenville Avenue Pizza Company with breakfast and lunch service later this year before dinner service and the patio will be open early next year, per the news release.

“The addition of Dream Café is a perfect fit for The CORE District and the welcoming ambiance we aim to cultivate across the District,” City Manager Don Magner said in the news release. “ “This new addition will fill a unique niche in the Lockwood Neighborhood, complementing our signature mix of lunch and evening destinations that draw people seeking fresh, memorable experiences.”

Some context

Siblings Mary and Grady O’Brien first opened Dream Cafe in 1985 on Knox Street, before the restaurant moved to its current location along McKinney Avenue in Uptown in 1988, per the news release.

The Richardson location will be owner Christine Lott’s second store, and the third Dream Cafe overall, joining the Uptown location and another in Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood. The restaurant joins other Core District businesses, such as Partenope Ristorante, Kirin Court and Lockwood Distilling Co.

“We are excited about opening a new location in The CORE District and look forward to getting to know our new neighbors there,” Lott said in the news release.
