Dallas spent $13.6 million to acquire the 13.48-acre property from Coit Hildebrand, LP. Dallas City Council approved the purchase at its Dec. 11 meeting. The space in far north Dallas is set to be developed into a city park at a future date.
Adventure Landing features miniature golf, go-karts, laser tag and several other activities. The center also hosts birthday parties and special events.
Adventure Landing will continue to operate under the same management, while the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will now manage the soccer fields.
What they’re saying
Dallas City Council member Cara Mendelsohn said that the area is currently a “park desert,” meaning it has the “highest concentration of people the furthest from a park.”
“Currently, people have to walk 1.8 miles just to get to the nearest trail, and that doesn’t include access to playgrounds or sports fields,” she said. “This park will change that.”
She added that Adventure Landing will remain an asset to the City of Dallas as it continues to operate under existing management.
“We’re excited to preserve this community treasure,” Mendelsohn said. “The amusement park draws visitors from Richardson, Plano and beyond, generating tax revenue for the city.”
