The Richardson City Council unanimously approved a special permit request by Children are Heroes Learning Center to operate a daycare facility during its July 22 meeting. The City Plan Commission recommended approval of the special permit request during its July 2 meeting.

Children are Heroes Learning Center will operate within an existing building located at 331 E. Polk St., according to city documents. The building will have more than 1,600 square feet indoor and 2,900 square feet of outdoor play space, according to information submitted to council.
Valerie McGee, owner of Children are Heroes Learning Center, said that the learning center will operate with staggered drop off and pick up times to alleviate traffic congestion. Per the city documents, the maximum capacity of students is 34, which is based on state requirements, but McGee states it will likely be closer to 26.
