Having been involved in the competitive cycling business for more than 20 years, Felipe Montiel offers a unique perspective on how to best repair a bicycle.

Montiel applies that knowledge to The Bike Shop, located at 1002 N. Central Expressway, Ste. 116, in Richardson. The shop stocks bicycles for men, women and children as well as accessories, bike racks and more. Montiel also offers mechanic experience, repairing bicycles on-site no matter where they were purchased.

“I can help the community to get better bicycles and enjoy more from their bicycles at any level,” Montiel said.

Montiel, who also is a licensed competitive bicycling instructor, said his experience gave him the ability to repair many issues for customers.

“Learning how to fix a bike in the middle of nowhere makes it really easy to fix a bike with all the tools and accessories we have,” he said.

The store first opened in Richardson in 1980 to add a bike shop to the north Dallas area. Montiel became owner in 2017 and has helped grow the business since.

Montiel’s biggest push for The Bike Shop was to move to a new location after outgrowing the previous store at 2111 E. Arapaho Road. The business reopened in March at its new location.

“This location gives us more room both for bikes and for repairs,” he said.

In addition to larger space, Montiel said the new store offers a better location for bike riders to access the shop.

“We have the train station just behind the building, so we’ve seen a lot more traffic,” he said.

Montiel said the shop offers a wide variety of bicycles, including baby bikes, competitive use bikes and tricycles for people with balance issues. Having a larger catalog and strong customer service helps set The Bike Shop apart, Montiel said.

“People can have a personal contact with us, and we can help get the best buy for them,” he said.
