The Prosper Police Department is already adding onto its drone program, which is expected to take its first on-duty flight in mid-April.

Prosper Town Council members approved a $307,133 expansion to its soon-to-be-launched drone program and agreement with Flock Inc. during a March 25 meeting.

The background

Flock Inc. is the company behind Prosper’s network of license plate cameras, which have been operating at many of the town’s intersections since spring 2023.

The drone program expansion comes roughly four months after officials approved a contract for the first drone in November.

The drone, specifically a Drone as First Responder, or DFR, is included in the police department’s ongoing strategic plan, Chief of Police Scott Brewer said.
