Two Celina City Council seats are up for election. Here’s what you need to know.

On the ballot

The candidate filing period for the May 3 council election closed Feb. 14 with three applications received by the city.

Two seats are on the ballot—Place 1 and Place 6. Those positions are currently held by members Philip Ferguson and Brandon Grumbles, respectively.

Both Ferguson and Grumbles have filed for reelection. Grumbles was the sole candidate for his seat while Ferguson will face a challenger, candidate Dorothy Allan, in May.

This is Grumbles’ second unopposed council race. He was first sworn in to council in January 2024 after he was the only candidate to file for the open Place 6 seat.

Ferguson was first elected in 2022. If reelected in May, it would be his second term.

Something to note

Celina City Council members and the mayor serve three-year terms. They are elected at-large and serve the entire city collectively.

Council members currently do not have term limits.
