A special-called election to appoint a new Celina City Council member has been officially canceled.

The gist

Celina City Council members approved an ordinance canceling a Dec. 9 special election during a Nov. 14 meeting.

The ordinance also formally approved Brandon Grumbles, Celina resident and local business owner, as the council seat’s unopposed candidate.

Under these circumstances, council is authorized to declare Grumbles elected to office, according to meeting documents.

Going forward

Canvassing ends Dec. 20, meaning Grumbles could be sworn in anytime between Dec. 21 and council’s first January 2024 meeting, Marketing and Communications Director Joe Monaco said.

Grumbles’ first meeting as a council member is also expected to be the same January 2024 meeting, likely Jan. 9, 2024, Monaco said.
