Daystar Landscapes General Manager Catherine Brooks said there are several aspects a homeowner should consider when deciding to landscape their yard, and Daystar staff is there to make the process as easy as possible.

The backstory

Daystar Landscapes was founded in 1984 by Jeff Canfield after he moved to North Texas from Oklahoma.

“He was looking for ways to make an income and in landscaping, at that time, you didn’t have to have a license or a permit,” Brooks said. “So he started a small landscaping business.”

Brooks said Canfield stocked shelves at a local store at night, rented a wheelbarrow and bought the tools he needed using a credit card, then began going house to house to find work.

Eventually, he was introduced to several home builders—such as Highland Homes, David Weekley Homes, and Taylor Morrison/Darling Homes, and Risland Homes—and started providing landscaping services for them.

Now Daystar has six designers, called project managers that supervise designs and installations.

What they offer

While Daystar staff works closely with homebuilders, commercial contractors, commercial property managers and homeowners associations, they also provide services for residential homeowners who want to enhance their yard’s appearance.

Brooks said project managers will consult with homeowners to find a design that works best for their personal preferences and their lifestyle.

Along with greenscaping, Brooks said the company provides hardscaping services, such as masonry work, gazebos or retaining walls, and irrigation.

Additionally, Brooks said Daystar has a partnership with HFS Financial, offering financing to help homeowners make enhancements and renovations more affordable.

What’s special about it?

Brooks said Daystar is a biblically-based company and believes that the gifts and talents God has given can be paid forward, both through their work and through philanthropic endeavors. The company works closely with several charitable organizations—Agape Resource and Assistance Center in Plano, Hugs Cafe in McKinney, Community Garden Kitchen and more—providing gratis landscape services.
