Celina ISD officials are preparing for a rapid expansion over the next decade.
Enrollment could grow by as much as 275% by 2034, according to district projections.
To accommodate the expected influx of students, officials are opening a slate of new campuses using funds from the district’s 2019 and 2025 bonds.
What’s new
Willard Middle School, the district’s second middle school, was built with funds from CISD’s 2019 bond and opened its doors for the 2026-27 school year.
Celina High School also got a refresh over the summer. CISD’s career and technical education programs like engineering, welding and animal science are now housed in a new wing built with bond funds, according to a district representative.
“We added 233,000 square feet for the high school, and at Willard we added 203,000 square feet,” said David Fink, director of Construction Services and Facility Planning, at an Aug. 17 Board of Trustees meeting. “So this summer alone, we opened up almost 450,000 square feet.”
What’s next
CISD’s growth is set to continue with three more campuses opening for the 2027-28 school year:
Alma Jo Scott Elementary School is under construction using funds from the district’s 2019 bond, while Ophelia Grumbles Elementary School and Janet H. Calvert Elementary School will be built using funds from the 2025 bond.
Crews are working on roads and infrastructure at Alma Jo Scott Elementary School and Janet H. Calvert Elementary School, and construction has already gone vertical at Ophelia Grumbles Elementary School, Fink said.
Other projects planned as part of the 2025 bond include a second high school, two more middle schools and five additional elementary schools, according to district documents.
